Kissimmee is located in central Florida’s Osceola County, just south of Orlando. Its proximity to Orlando, which is home to many world-renowned theme parks and other popular attractions, has made Kissimmee a popular vacation destination. Kissimmee is also near to the beautiful beaches of Florida’s Space Coast. Kissimmee’s desirable location, positioned as it is between a thriving city and relaxing beaches, makes it a wonderful place to live.

What Makes Kissimmee So Great?

Kissimmee should not be defined entirely by its relationship to nearby Orlando. Indeed, Kissimmee is a vibrant and thriving city in its own right. From natural attractions to more theme park-style entertainments, Kissimmee has something to satisfy everyone. The city is located along the northwest shore of Lake Tohopekaliga (Lake Toho for short). Lake Toho’s picturesque Kissimmee Waterfront Park includes walking paths, playgrounds and a fishing pier.

Kissimmee is also home to a variety of other parks, paths, and biking trails, most notably the Shingle Creek Regional Trail, an inter-governmental project that will eventually connect Kissimmee to Orlando. This 32-mile bicycle trail runs along Shingle Creek, an environmentally sensitive area. The trail was included on President Obama’s America’s Great Outdoors list. Parts of the trail are currently open, and many more are schedule to be completed by 2016. Kissimmee also contains several golf courses and prime boating spots.

If you’re more interested in shopping than biking and boating, however, Kissimmee is also home to the Loop, a large outdoor shopping mall located at John Young and Osceola Parkways on the Orange/Osceola County line. It features prominent retailers, including American Eagle, Kohls, and Best Buy, as well as a multi-plex theater. Another popular Kissimmee shopping spot is the former Osceola Square Mall, which has been transformed into a Spanish-style marketplace called Plaza Del Sol.
