Aquatica is a sister park to SeaWorld and Discovery Cove. Aquatica is a southern Pacific themed park. The park’s popular mascots are characters based on animals from the south Pacific nations of Australia and New Zealand. These mascots include Roa, a kiwi, Kata, a kookaburra, Wai, a Commerson’s dolphin, Ihu, a gecko, Papa, a royal spoonbill, Wae Wae, a takahe (a large flightless bird native to New Zealand), and Motu, a turtle.
Why It’s Popular
Aquatica has become quite popular since its opening in 2008, in part because it caters to swimmers of all abilities and various levels of daring. Many of its attractions pass by or through animal habitats. The park also has two wave pools that feel almost like a day at the beach. These wave pools sit astride an 80,000 square foot man made beach area. This peaceful beach setting features a beautiful expanse of white sand. Bring a beach blanket if you like, but Aquatica’s beautiful white sand beach is fully equipped with comfortable deck chairs, sun beds, and umbrellas to shade you from the hot Florida sun.
Who Loves It?
Beach lovers of all ages are sure to enjoy the white sandy beach that joins Aquatica’s two wave pools. Parents can relax in a deck chair under a beach umbrella or work on that must-have Florida vacation tan on one of the beach’s comfortable sun beds while the kids frolic in the wave pools. Thrill seekers will love Aquatica’s excitement-packed rides, including the Taumata Racer and Roa’s Rapids.
Nature lovers will be thrilled with Roa’s Aviary. With it unique waterfall entrance, which keeps the birds from escaping, the 34,000 square foot aviary is home to many species of exotic birds. Animal lovers will also be delighted with Stingray Falls, a one of a kind ride that passes through an underground grotto bringing riders up close and personal with mysterious stingrays and colorful tropical fish.
